Fast-growing film industry company WC Entertainment proudly announces its latest venture, Honeysuckle, a drama film written by Somerville resident and Berkeley County native William Brian Baker and directed by Alan Ray. To do. The production, starring Baker and an award-winning ensemble cast, marks a significant milestone for the South Carolina-based company.
Baker, who attended Stratford High School, starred and executive produced his first independent film, Gives, which was released in 2010.
“I've always been interested in vampire stories, but I also wanted something that had meaning for modern society,” Baker said. “Vampire movies are often action-packed love stories, like a modern-day version of Twilight. We wanted a drama that wasn't about vampires, but about humans who happen to become vampires.”
Principal photography on the film will begin in April, and “Honeysuckle” will unfold against the backdrop of Charleston and Myrtle Beach, promising captivating visuals and an immersive experience for audiences.
At its core, “Honeysuckle” delves into the story of Craig, a car salesman living in 1972. His life takes an unexpected turn when he is transformed into a vampire and his dreams of a conventional family life are shattered. The film offers an exploration of social norms and personal identity through the lens of folklore, as Craig grapples with deep loss and comes to terms with his newfound identity.
“We're used to things like vampires and the Victorian era, so it's more than a few decades. So it's about him dealing with it for decades and how boring he is. It kind of straddles how you live your life,” Baker said. “He's a character who happens to be a vampire, and that's how we're pitching it. But we're trying to work on some mystery elements without giving away what that is.” .”
As a testament to South Carolina's wealth of talent, the production features a cast of local actors, including Adam Ray, Alexis Durham, and Ashley Perry. Additionally, the project's global appeal is highlighted by the participation of talent from Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Finland.
