Matty Healy's family has criticized Taylor Swift for writing about their relationship on her new album, The Tortured Poets Department.
The two briefly dated last summer, and her new song, “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” features lyrics like “Jehovah's Witness suit” and “making[Swift's]bright summer rusty.” It seems to be a reference to the 1975 frontman.
Matty's aunt Debbie Dedes, sister of her famous mother Denise Welch, told MailOnline:
“She writes about all her relationships, right? I don't think it's a shock to him at all.
“He's very happy with his new relationship, so I'm sure he'll focus on that.
“As my nephew, we know a little more about what happened than what was reported.”
Taylor said the new album depicts “transient and fateful moments that are both sensational and equally sad.”
She added on Instagram: “This period in the author's life is over, the chapter is closed and boarded up.
“There is nothing to take revenge on, nothing to settle once the wounds have healed, and upon reflection, it turns out that a significant number of them were self-inflicted.
“This writer firmly believes that our tears become sacred in the form of ink on a page. Once we have told our saddest stories, we can be free from them. Masu.
“And all that remains is poetry full of agony.”
Taylor, 34, and Matty, 35, briefly dated last year but broke up in June.
Taylor is currently dating 26-year-old model Gabrielette Bechte, and Taylor is dating NFL star Travis Kelce, 34.
