Like many of this week's victims, “CSI: Vegas” was cut short in its prime.
The reboot of the series that put Las Vegas on the map won't air until its fourth season. According to multiple news outlets, CBS canceled the series to make room for new dramas, including the new series “NCIS: Origins.'' Try “Watson,'' which is adjacent to “Matlock'' and Sherlock Holmes.
CSI: Vegas, originally planned as a limited series to celebrate the 20th anniversary of CSI: Forensics, was delayed by a year due to the pandemic. The 10-episode reboot did well enough to earn a 22-episode second season in 2021. Due to last year's writers' and actors' strike, the third season was limited to 10 episodes.
“CSI: Vegas'' will see the return of original stars William Petersen (Gil Grissom) and Jorja Fox (Sarah Seidle), teaming up with a new team led by Paula Newsom's crime lab director Maxine Robbie. I assembled it. Petersen and Foxx left after the first season, and another original, Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows), signed on for the final two seasons.
On December 4, 2022, Newsom and Helgenberger, along with 108 other CSI: Vegas cast and crew members, returned to downtown Las Vegas for a day of filming for the Season 3 premiere.
At least for now, Friday's cancellation marks the end of the series that “CSI: Forensic Investigation” started in 2000. At its peak, the series was broadcast from Las Vegas to more than 70 million viewers around the world.
Created by Anthony Zuiker, a Chaparral High School and UNLV graduate who earned $8 an hour as a Mirage streetcar driver, “CSI” later went on to star in spinoffs “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: NY,” ” Created CSI: Cyber. In addition to CSI: Vegas, CSI ended its run as a two-hour movie on September 27, 2015.
The final episode of “CSI: Vegas” will air on CBS on May 19th at 10 p.m.
