Félix “El Gatito” Garcia is set to return to the ring on Saturday when he is scheduled to headline P4P Entertainment’s “Noche de Campeones” at the Sames Auto Arena.
This is the second time Garcia has headlined the event, having headlined P4P Entertainment's one of 2023's premier boxing events in Gateway City in July.
“It's a great opportunity for me to headline the event,” Garcia said. “I especially know how much talent the P4P fight card has. I would like to thank my promoter Santiago Martinez for believing in me and allowing me to headline this great event.”
Garcia has been busy in training camp in preparation for his scheduled eight-round showdown with Hugo “El Tigre” Casteneda for the super featherweight WBC Youth Intercontinental Championship.
“Every camp is different depending on the opponent,” Garcia said. “We always practice hard, but this match means even more to me. I will fight for the WBC Youth Intercontinental Championship in my hometown. I am training hard to improve my skills.”
Garcia is 8-0 (1 KO) in his pro career, while Castaneda is 13-1-1 with only one loss.
“My new opponent is from Reynosa and he’s here with just one loss,” Garcia said. “He's a former WBO world youth champion and we're excited to put on the show. We know he's coming in with everything, but so be it.”
El Gatito will be aiming for his ninth professional win, but there's nothing better than competing in his hometown. He enjoys every opportunity to fight in his hometown. “All my matches are special because I like to have exciting matches,” Garcia said. “Everyone who has seen me fight back home knows that I like to keep them on their toes, and this fight is no different.”
Garcia is coached by his father, Felix Garcia Sr. The Garcias are focused on the fight at hand and are preparing for whatever comes their way, including fighting a new opponent.
“This is the most important game of his career,” Felix Sr. said. “The good thing is that we know each other very well. We know El Tigre and his team. When Felix fought in Reynosa, Mexico in January, he A lot of things happen in boxing, and when his first opponent dropped out, Castaneda contacted the P4P promoter and got a call saying he was going to fight Felix. My son didn't hesitate when he was told he would be competing against El Tigre. This fight was destined to happen, because sooner or later we would encounter El Tigre.
Garcia looked sharp during the public media training session, and his anticipation for the fight could be seen in every punch he threw at his sparring partner.
“I'm excited and the closer we get to the boxing event, the more excited I get,” Felix Jr. said. “I'm ready to meet everyone there and hopefully hear the words 'still undefeated and the new WBC champion.'”
