Tom Cruise gave Dakota Fanning her first cell phone.
The 61-year-old “Top Gun: Maverick” actor, who is famous for giving his friends cakes on special occasions, gave it to his girlfriend on her 11th birthday after co-starring in 2005's “War of the Worlds.” I gave it to him and have been sending him gifts every year since then.
In a joint interview with Ripley co-star Andrew Scott, 47, she was asked, “Who gave Dakota her first cell phone?” told the magazine.
Andrew speculated. “Well, that would be a Hollywood icon…Tom Cruise?”
Dakota agreed, saying Tom gave her a Motorola Razr when she turned 11, and Andrew asked, “Were you that excited?”
Dakota responded, “Oh my god, I was so excited.”
But, she said, “back then there was no one to call or email,” adding: I liked it. It felt really cool. ”
She continued: “Tom sends me a birthday present every year and has continued to do so ever since.
“Very thoughtful. Really, really great.”
Andrew jokingly said, “He didn't give me anything.”
Tom's Motorola Laser wasn't the only gift Dakota received from a Hollywood star early in her career.
Appearing again with Andrew on Elle's Ask Me Anything interview series, she said the “best” wrapped gift she's ever received was from her 2005 Dreamer co-star Kurt Russell, 73. ), he said it was a gift from him.
She said: “Kurt Russell gave me a horse.”
“It could be your autobiography,” Andrew joked, “It's 'Kurt Russell Gave Me a Horse: The Story of Dakota Fanning.'”
Dakota, who also co-stars with 69-year-old Denzel Washington, also insisted she was never intimidated by her recurring roles with some of Hollywood's biggest names.
She said: “I was used to being around people who were considered 'intimidating,' so maybe that numbed that side of me a little bit.
“When you're 8 years old, you get to know the other person as a person and don't think about anything else, right?”
