LAS VEGAS – The “Monopoly” movie is heading straight to theaters through “Go” courtesy of Margot Robbie.
A movie based on the classic board game is in development by the Barbie star's production company LuckyChap. Lionsgate revealed Robbie's involvement in the project on Wednesday at CinemaCon, a convention for movie theaters and studios. Hasbro Entertainment will also produce the film.
“Monopoly is a great property. A joke completely intended,” LuckyChap said in a statement shared with USA TODAY. “Like all great IP, this game will resonate across generations and around the world, and we're thrilled to be working with the great teams at Lionsgate and Hasbro to bring it to life.”
Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement that Lucky Chap is coming into the Monopoly movie “with a clear point of view” and “about what we all believe in.
