- Some users were reaffirmed as “notable” accounts on X and were given blue checks.
- It seems that users with 2,500 or more paid verified followers are eligible.
- But does it look uncool?
Something strange happened on Twitter/X on Wednesday night. An alert popped up in my notifications. “As an influential member of the X community, we have provided you with a free subscription to X Premium…”
Suddenly, the blue check mark next to my Twitter username that disappeared a year ago is back. Um oh. I found myself in a tough situation.
It has been about a year and a half since the old blue check verification system was discontinued and a new paid system was introduced. During this time, blue checks came to mean something very specific. That is, someone who actually pays for her X, someone who is willing to pay to promote their tweets. People who believe that X is a platform worth investing in, rather than one that slowly descends into chaos and irrelevance. People who post engagement bait and rage bait motivated by ad sharing payments.
(OK, I don't think everyone who was paying a blue check fits into these categories. I'm sure some are just nice people who like the service. I've never met them in person, but I'm sure they exist. Do they exist?)
There is no official explanation as to why so many people who were previously certified received free blue checks. However, Elon Musk recently tweeted that Company X will be giving away free premium membership to users with 2,500 paid followers. (He did not respond to requests for clarification regarding this policy.)
This affects people with large numbers of followers. Or maybe it means that for people like me with less than 100,000 followers, I have a higher than usual appeal to people who pay for reported on NFTs and cryptocurrencies, a topic that tends to attract paid blue checks.)
I don't know what to do.
I don't want people to think it's me. paid About this (eh). You can use the option to hide the blue check on your profile (but it will still show up as an authenticated user in your notifications tab, so it's not completely secret).
Or do you keep the blue check because there are enough others now? please do not Am I going to pay the price by not immediately realizing that I'm a total asshole? Maybe it actually makes me look important and influential (and of course I like looking important and influential. What else can I do? ?)
When Twitter Blue first launched in 2022 (pre-Elon), I was willing to pay $2.99 per month for the additional features Twitter Blue offered. I thought it was worth paying the modest fee for the improved functionality of an app I use all the time. to be honest? good.
I liked the “Top Articles” feature, which displays a list of the most shared news articles among the people you follow. This was a great way to quickly see what articles people were talking about.
I also appreciated having an “undo” button for a few seconds after sending a tweet. This is because you may notice a typo, or it may give you a chance to reconsider whether or not to post something. It's great to have these two features back. It was really nostalgic.
An added bonus is that you can rearrange the navigation buttons at the bottom of the app to finally remove the Grok tab.
I think the only reasonable answer here is to hide the blue check and enjoy the free features. Thanks for the freebie, Elon, but I don't want to seem like a scammer!
