Indio, the Coachella Valley's “Festival City,” announced Monday that it will hold a free public concert to celebrate the grand opening of Center Stage, its latest project to revitalize its downtown.
And since it's in the middle of two weekends of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, you never know who'll be in the audience.
Spotlight on Indian artists
The goal of Center Stage Presents Sonidos is to provide community members with the opportunity to experience a vibrant tapestry of Hispanic artists. It will give local talent a platform to shine and allow residents to participate in a more intimate music festival season experience.
“We are excited to present such an exciting concert in a brand new venue in downtown Indio, and it is important to us that this concert be free to area residents,” Mayor Lupe Ramos Amis said in a statement. ” he said. “Embark on an exciting journey of artistic discovery and community celebration as we celebrate the opening of Indio’s new landmark.”
Where is Center Stage located in Indio?
Center Stage is located at 82-881 Miles Ave., right next to the new Indio Taphouse restaurant in downtown Indio.
When is the free concert?
The Center Stage ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for April 17 at 5 p.m., and Sonidos plans to begin the live entertainment portion of the event at 6 p.m.
Who will perform?
According to a press release, the concert lineup will be announced next week.
Indio's new entertainment hub
Center Stage is home to numerous entertainment events, including our popular Second Saturday Monthly Free Concert Series, open mic nights, performances, and viewing parties. According to a press release, the venue is intended to celebrate and showcase the rich diversity of both the community's talent and the Coachella Valley's traveling entertainers.
Indio City Council announced the Center Stage event as part of a downtown revitalization effort that began in late 2021.
