Big and Bold Artist: Vanaja Mulagada
“Go Green” is a captivating, detailed watercolor painting of succulents inspired by a local grocery store nursery. The artist intends this piece to serve as a reminder to embrace nature and inspire us all to adopt a greener and more mindful lifestyle. 19 inches x 25 inches. watercolor.
Art Dollar Community Show for Scholars
Art deadline is May 5th.The show will run from May 2nd to June 7th
Anyone can participate in this show. Sign up now! As with last year, adult admission is $15 per 10-inch x 10-inch wood panel. Each youth participant (18 and under) will receive one free piece of his 6″ x 6″ stretched canvas. Youth participants who prefer 10-inch square wood panels may purchase them. VGA Open Studio for Members and the Public

Children's class, ages 7-11, VGA teaching team
Join us for exciting classes learning different art forms! Our rotating team of instructors will give you the opportunity to explore different media and approaches while building your artistic concepts and skills. All supplies included.

Projects include Zentangle techniques, square acrylic paintings, sand sketches, and watercolor boats and birds.

Illuminated Letter Class with Susan Pfahl
Sunday, April 7th. 1-3 p.m., maximum 8 people, free.Registration required to reserve a spot
Illuminated letters were popular in the Middle Ages, when there was no other light than sunlight, candlelight, or firelight. They were created to capture the available light to grab the reader's attention. Students create their own light-up letters or use pre-drawn letters sized 4″ x 6″ by the instructor. You can decorate the letters with colors such as gold or silver to create small works of art. Please let us know which letter you would like to create when you register for this class. All supplies will be provided.
Making gourds, seaweed and shells, coils and knotless nets with Jane A. Wilson
Saturday, April 13th.9:30am – 4:30pm (30 minute lunch break), capacity 12 people
Learn coil weaving, a basket weaving technique in which seaweed and waxed linen thread is used around the edge of a pre-cut gourd, then dropped onto the body of the gourd and covered with a knotless net. Rove the edges with rush wool and decorate with pre-drilled shells and beads. This project should be completed during class. No weaving experience is required.
Introduction to Basket Weaving by Diane Singledecker
Thursdays, April 18th, 25th, and May 2nd.9:30am – 12:00pm, maximum of 8 people
Learn the basics of simple basket weaving by creating a sari bag with a simple two-color pattern. Complete it in time and give it as a unique Mother's Day gift. In this class, you will learn how to knit round bases, single twists, double twists in two colors, and finishing the edges. This basic basket also includes a fabric liner that you'll make in class. We will prepare linen material to be used for the warp of the basket.
Introduction to Watercolor Painting by Susan Fahl
Tuesdays in May, 7pm to 9:30pm, maximum of 8 people
Each class will experiment with how paint, paper, and water react. I will create simple paintings that incorporate this “experiment” into my work. You can't expect a masterpiece, but your skills will improve. Returning students are welcome. New projects and techniques will be introduced in subsequent series of this class. No prerequisites required.

Call for artist reservations, The Curio

The Patricia Riser Center for the Arts, in partnership with the City of Beaverton/Beaverton Arts Market, is pleased to announce the call for artists for its second annual exhibition and sale, “The Curio.” Visual artists in Oregon and Washington are invited to apply. The focus of the exhibition and sale is original artwork, small gifts, and artist reproductions. To be recognized as an artist, you must be prolific, demonstrate excellent craftsmanship, and have a substantial inventory of multiple pieces available for sale. Please note that we will not be displaying any holiday-only products at this exhibition.
Artists interested in applying to The Curio should submit their entries via the submittable form by Sunday, May 5th. Submission of an application does not guarantee participation in this opportunity. A selection process will then take place and artists will be notified. Please see the full prospectus for details on eligibility, acceptable media, submission guidelines and fees.
The mission of The Lither Art Gallery is to exhibit diverse and intentional artwork by local Northwest artists and to support and celebrate the community that values, engages in, and partners with the arts. The Curio is a collaboration between Beaverton Arts Market and The Reser Gallery that celebrates the creativity and diversity of local artists and artisans and provides a unique shopping experience for art lovers.

Lizer Art Gallery is temporarily closed.
During the recent extreme weather event in our area, a broken internal sprinkler pipe in the ceiling on the second floor caused water damage to a portion of The Lither's lobby ceiling and the art galleries on both floors. .
We regret to inform you that the art gallery will be temporarily closed. All performances and events in the rest of the building will take place as scheduled. We look forward to welcoming visitors to our gallery as soon as possible.
In honor of the artists currently exhibiting, the exhibition “Dialogues: An Emerging Artist Showcase” has been rescheduled and will reopen in early September. This allows us to showcase their work and celebrate their achievements in the best possible way. It's also a great opportunity for our community to vote for their favorite artwork, so we'll announce the People's Choice Award during our First Friday Celebration in October. Thank you for your patience and support during this difficult time. The Down Syndrome Achievement Center is opening soon!

GiGi's Playhouse's Portland team will establish an achievement center for people with Down syndrome and similar challenges in Portland in the summer of 2024. The GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge aims to raise awareness about Down syndrome, its impact on families, and valuable services. The northwest offers GiGi's Playhouse.
Funds raised will help open the doors to GiGi's Playhouse Portland, providing free treatment, education, and vocational services to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. GiGi's Playhouse is more than just a center, it serves as a hub for community engagement and support. Through events such as the GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge, the Playhouse aims to promote inclusivity and foster connections within the community.
Event organizers are seeking vendors and sponsors to participate in the challenge. Vendors will have the opportunity to showcase family-friendly products and services and engage attendees with carnival-style games. 36th Annual Herzog Meyer Senior Arts Scholarship Show
April 21-27, Herzog Meyer Auto Center Showroom, 4275 SW 139th Way, Beaverton.
In partnership with the Beaverton Educational Foundation (BEF), the 36th Annual Herzog Meyer Senior Art Scholarship Show will feature more than 200 pieces of art judged from all public high schools in the Beaverton area. One scholarship will be awarded per school and all participants will be honored to attend his reception on Wednesday, April 24th from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Beaverton's (4275 SW 139th Way). I will.
A $5,000 grant from the Washington County Cultural Coalition in conjunction with the Oregon Cultural Trust will provide art supplies to help seniors at each high school prepare their submissions for the Herzog-Meyer Show.

Katrin Gabel East Campus Community Arts Program

When Catlin Gabel acquired the OCAC campus in 2019, we were committed to continuing the university’s community arts legacy. Today, we offer a wide range of art classes for adults, from those who want to develop their talents to those who want to hone their skills. Check it out and sign up.
