Icon Park's 400-foot-tall observation wheel, formerly known as The Wheel, gained both a (not so) new owner and a (not so) new name this week .
The iDrive attraction was acquired by Merlin Entertainments, an entertainment company that operates tourist attractions around the world, on Monday and was reverted to its original name, Orlando i.
Merlin previously owned and operated the attraction from 2015 to 2018 when it first opened. The latest name comes in a long line of changes to the attraction's identity. From “Coca-Cola Orlando Eye” to “The Wheel,” this attraction's name change will be his fifth in less than a decade.
Marlin owns several other Orlando attractions, including Legoland Florida Park and Resort, Sea Life Orlando Aquarium, and Madame Tussauds Orlando. (The last two of his are in Icon Park, as is the Ferris wheel.)
“Merlin Entertainment's Orlando Eye will be a must-see stop on visitors' itineraries, offering an elevated experience with unobstructed 360-degree views of the Icon Park area and beyond,” said Merlin Entertainment. Entertainment CEO Scott O'Neal said in a release.
Icon Park President and CEO Chris Juskiewicz is also committed to growing the park and believes it aligns with Merlin Entertainment's plans.
“We have successfully built and developed a well-known Orlando landmark and now welcome the Orlando Eye by Merlin Entertainment as one of Icon Park's premier tenants,” said Juskiewicz. Ta.
Merlin Entertainment's Orlando Eye is located at 8375 International Drive and tickets can be purchased at theorlandoeye.com.
