Taylor Swift's father is not expected to face legal action after allegedly punching a paparazzi.
The 34-year-old singer was in Australia last month with her father, Scott Swift, 71, when she spotted the Bad Blood hitmaker stepping off a yacht at Sydney's ferry pier. He is said to have verbally abused photographer Ben McDonald. However, NSW Police confirmed that no action was taken in relation to the incident following an investigation by North Shore Police Command.
Police previously confirmed the area was the scene of a bust-up, but Taylor's camp claimed it was the result of two people acting “aggressively”.
“Two individuals aggressively advanced towards Taylor, grabbed the security guard and threatened to throw the female staff member into the water,” they said in a statement.
Local NSW military police have confirmed that a 71-year-old man, who did not give his name, is suspected of assaulting a 51-year-old man at a NSW pier at about 2.30am. .
Police added that the alleged victim who reported the incident did not require medical treatment.
The photographer also told News.com.au that he could not understand what had caused the outburst. “I was shocked… there was no need for it, security was in control.
“I'll leave it to the police this time.”
But the photographer branded the statement “utter rubbish” and said Taylor was the only woman at the scene.
The CEO of Matrix Media Group said he initially thought the attacker was a security guard, but was shocked to learn it was Taylor's father. He claimed that he did not know whether he caused the incident.
He said, “I've been taking photos for 23 years, but I've never seen anything like this.
“She got off the boat and walked towards the security guard who was holding an umbrella in our faces.”
The photographer did not require treatment, but said he was left with a “very painful chop” on the left side of his face.
