STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A new update from Staten Island-born funnies Pete Davidson and Colin Jost says their plan to turn the Staten Island Ferry into an entertainment venue is no joke.
The website for the company partnering with the comedian on the effort lists the renovation of John F. Kennedy's old ferry boat as having a budget of $34 million and a 65,000-square-foot floor plan, Curbed reports. It is stated that.
The Staten Island celebrities first announced the project two years ago, when they purchased the decommissioned ship for $280,100.
Renderings of each floor previously posted on the site show a top deck with patio tables, another floor with two rows of hotel rooms facing the sundeck, and a lower floor with two nightclubs. It is shown. Ron Castellano, the master architect behind the design, told Curbed that the boat would eventually feature two restaurants and six bars, with an aesthetic that reflects the style of the mid-1960s when the ferry was built. He said it would be.
When asked about Mr. Jost and Mr. Davidson's role in the ongoing project, they said they provide input and “see everything” that happens on the ferryboat.
When asked where the boat would dock, noting previous references to New York and Miami, he said it “doesn't have to be in one place” and could travel between cities along the East Coast.
As for the timeline for when it will be completed, Castellano said the initial construction phase is “in progress.”
“We will just bid as soon as it is completed. It will take a year, that I am correcting the drawing due to a problem. it is If something happens, I'll find a place for it. ”
Mr. Davidson previously joked that he and Mr. Jost were “very upset” when they bought the previous ferry. Jost later took to Instagram to clear the air and refute Davidson's claims.
“Wouldn't it have been better if I was actually stone-cold sober when I bought the ferry?” the current “SNL” star joked in the caption.
The John F. Kennedy was commissioned in 1965 and was the oldest surviving boat in the Staten Island Ferry's active fleet before being retired. She retired in August 2021.
Davidson, Jost and comedy club owner Paul Italia purchased the boat through an online public auction. According to the original listing, John F. Kennedy was in poor condition and had to be retired due to mechanical problems. Former crew members claimed the ship was infested with cockroaches and contained asbestos.
