Idney Sweeney's latest film, Immaculate, is a horror film set in an Italian monastery, in which he plays both the lead role and the producer.
The “Euphoria” and “White Lotus” actress plays Sister Cecilia, a young American nun who enters a convent in rural Italy. As she struggles to understand what is wrong with the facility, she suddenly realizes that she is pregnant.
“I looked at this movie in my head and wanted to make this movie for a really long time, and I knew I had to trust and believe in myself and surround myself with the right team to help me learn how to do the job. 'I will do everything to the best of my ability,' Sweeney told Reuters.
“I had a say, I was involved in all the creative decisions, the process, the business, and I loved that,” she added about producing the film.
The 26-year-old said she instantly transformed into the character when she put on the costume.
“Every time I put on Cecilia's habits or put on her costume, I always walk a little differently, hold myself a little differently, my shoulders back, my handholds a little different. It felt different,” she said.
Sweeney appears in nearly every frame of the film, suffering various forms of suffering, from being covered in blood and being slapped to being submerged in a bathtub by a vengeful nun.
“Everything was so much fun for me… I really felt like I was in my own playground and I could dream and play in this crazy world and there were no limits or boundaries. It was really fun,” she said. added that she was keen to make more films.
“I hope that over the next five years I can continue to find characters and stories that challenge me in new ways.”
