Kelly Clarkson is 'fighting for what she thinks is right' in lawsuit against Brandon Blackstock.
The 41-year-old pop star recently filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband, and Kelly is determined to get back what she feels she is “owed.”
A source told Us Weekly: “The filing of this lawsuit against Brandon has nothing to do with her paying him alimony, which he feels is right and owed to her. It's about fighting for what you feel.”
Earlier this month, Kelly filed a lawsuit against Starstruck Entertainment, the management company of Brandon and his father, Narvel Blackstock.
The chart-topping singer claims Starstruck violated state labor rules and acted as an unauthorized talent agent with whom she entered into business contracts during her tenure. .
The source added that Kelly “knows she won't be able to completely wash her hands of Brandon because he's the father of her children, but she also won't be taken advantage of.”
Kelly, who was married to Brandon from 2013 to 2021, filed the lawsuit in a Los Angeles court on March 11.
The singer is seeking “all commissions, fees, profits, advances, production fees, and other monies” dating back to when she signed with the company in 2007.
Kelly, who has two children, 9-year-old River and 7-year-old Remington, with her ex-husband, wrote in her filing that “Based on Starstruck's torts and conduct, all agreements between the parties are void and unenforceable.'' They should be declared powerless and unpaid.” Cross-petitioners should be paid to Starstruck, and all monies previously paid by Cross-petitioners to Starstruck should be immediately forfeited from Starstruck. ”
Meanwhile, Brandon's attorney, Brian Friedman, denied Kelly's claims.
She told Rolling Stone: “It's morally wrong to try to get money back from her ex-husband, who not only helped her as her manager, but also spent the proceeds on their children and Kelly and Brandon's marriage.'' It's ethically and legally wrong.” ”
