Charlotte shouts! It's right there.
Uptown's annual celebration of creativity, culture and community runs from March 29th to April 14th. The festival elevates art, music, food and ideas through more than 200 installations, performances, events and activations. Almost all events are held outdoors and are free to the public. Over 1.8 million people visited Uptown during her 17 days on Charlotte Shout. last year, according to Charlotte Center City Partners.
Charlotte shouts! Some returning favorites include an interactive seesaw with a sustainable message and the Pianodrome, the nation's first upcycled piano amphitheater at Grace on Brevard.
“We couldn’t be more excited about this year’s Charlotte SHOUT!,” said Robert Crumbein, Chief Creative Officer at CCCP. “We've hand-picked a great mix of local talent and popular returning guests who offer brand-new experiences you won't want to miss, all in a central, walkable area. All in one visit to Uptown. I guarantee there’s not enough to see and experience.”
New lineup:
• e/motion is an interactive installation that revisits the seesaw and evokes the sensation of water surging in endless waves. The glowing liquid acts like a creature that rides up and down and reacts.
• Sonic Runway is a light art installation that converts audio signals into light patterns that shoot down a hallway of arches at the speed of sound.
• Optik is an interactive platform that allows users to manipulate and enhance synchronized sound and color.
Back this year:
• Eggs on Parade. 13 life-sized Easter eggs created by 13 different artists.
• Performances by national music artists and local and North Carolina-based artists on two stages, including First Ward Park's main stage.
• Installations and activations in secret alleys and public spaces.
There are also festivals within festivals.
• Charlotte Street (April 13-14) celebrates Charlotte's chefs, restaurants and culinary world. New for 2024 is StrEATs Uncorked, which opens April 3rd and focuses on North Carolina's wine culture.
• Charlotte Ideas Festival (April 6-9) features thinkers and innovators exploring the important topics of the day. Among the speakers were David Pogue, winner of his six Emmy Awards for “AI, Robotics, and Life in 2050,” and best-selling memoirist and author of “Strategies for Eating Culture for Breakfast.” Includes interviewer Kelly Corrigan.
