TTickets are now available for next week's Scottsdale Philharmonic's Tribute to Mozart concert.
The concert will be held at 4 p.m. March 17 at the North Canyon Performing Arts Center, 1700 E. Union Hills Drive in Phoenix, and will feature guest conductor David Schildkret, a music professor at Arizona State University since 2002.
“We are excited to enter our 12th season of bringing classical music to the Valley with an expanded concert schedule and development of youth programming,” said Joy Partridge, executive director of the Philharmonic.
“We are also pleased to announce that all concerts will be held at La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, starting with the concert on May 5th. This beautiful venue will accommodate 1,200 people. capacity and plenty of free parking,” she added. “This will be the new home of the Scottsdale Philharmonic.”
The Philharmonic also announced that its new permanent conductor from next season will be Vanya Dzhumal Nikolovsky.
Nikolovsky graduated from the Faculty of Music at St. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, Macedonia, majoring in conducting and composition, and is active all over the world.
Music selections for the Scottsdale Philharmonic Orchestra's March 17 concert include Mozart's “Piano Concerto No. 21” performed with piano soloist Qingqing Yeh; “Danny Boy” with soprano soloist Melissa Solomon. Prokofiev's “Lieutenant Kije Suite.'' and Puccini's “Si Mi Chiamario Mimi” (La Bohème) and Solomon.
The Scottsdale Philharmonic is committed to youth programs and increasing awareness of classical music to children by providing free concert tickets to all students.
Programs currently in development include the Scottsdale Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, music competitions for students, scholarships for underprivileged students, and concerts for children.
“The vision for the Scottsdale Philharmonic is to be a symphony for the entire Valley,” Partridge said. “This is why we offer free live streaming of all concerts, low ticket prices, and free tickets to all students and active duty military/veterans, as well as anyone with financial need but who wants to experience the joy of classical music. That’s why we offer it.”
The organization charges a ticket fee, but this income only covers about 30% of the costs, with the rest coming from individual donations.
Tickets range from $20 to $35 and can be purchased online at scotsdalephilharmonic.com. Upcoming concert dates are May 5th, June 30th, October 13th, and November 17th.
