And in the other corner was Flavor Fluff, 64, decked out in a white suit and chains, holding a gift. It wasn't just a gift, he had a custom necklace with a watch encrusted with giant pink rhinestones. – Has Irish's name on her face. He himself was wearing almost the same thing, and when he held it out to her as if it were an offering to her priestess, she screamed and had to run around her room for a minute.
According to Fluff, the unlikely pair are actually friends forever. “When I went to see her back in the day, I found out she was a big fan of mine,” he said. He made her a watch by himself and brought it to her, hoping that the two of her would meet.
An hour later, Eilish was still showing her watch to anyone who asked.
“Oh, she really likes it,” Flav said softly when he realized. “We put a lot of heart and soul into that watch.”
The 30th Anniversary Vanity Fair Oscar Party is the only party even your stoner cousins from Ohio will want to turn down at the door. As usual, it was held in a beautiful custom-built tent in Beverly Hills, with a hall of mirrors at the entrance. Of course, half the reason someone goes out of their way to say yes is so they can have their picture taken as proof of their invitation.
Everyone had their best moves in front of the camera (except Steven Spielberg). There's a statuesque Margot Robbie posing in a golden corset! And Emily Ratajkowski is rocking it in a gown that looks like a torn envelope!
But first, that great equalizer, the line. John Mulaney and Olivia Munn, Issa Rae, Cynthia Erivo, and Laverne Cox all appear to have been caused by Ashley Graham's rows of beaded gowns constantly needing to be spread out around her, leading to traffic jams. I was falling into a situation.
“I'm wearing a high-maintenance dress. Sorry!” she said with a laugh. “I got this because the designer made the dress for someone, I shouldn’t say who, but that person didn’t wear it, so I decided to wear it.” That's what I thought.”
“But designers haven't made dresses for us curvy girls yet, so I was lucky to find one. still! ”
Eilish was by far the one having the most fun in a tent that spans two streets adjacent to the Wallis Annenberg Performing Arts Center. She brought along two of her childhood friends, one of whom, Zoe, thanked her from the stage for playing Barbie dolls with her when she was little. They followed her to an empty dance floor, but she quickly abandoned it and gave the space to her best director Christopher Nolan, her producer and wife Emma Thomas, and many of them. I left it for my “Oppenheimer” friends.
It seems that bringing a non-celebrity girlfriend to the VF party was a theme for the entire “Barbie” staff. On the advice of Greta Gerwig, America Ferrera brought her friend Tamara from college. Gerwig said she likes to work with four, sometimes six, of her best friends from childhood.
“I was so inspired by Greta,” Ferrera said. “She basically explained that every party is more fun if you bring her friends.”
Melissa McCarthy didn't seem to need to import her friends as backup. When she entered the store, she was immediately locked into a dance-off with Will Arnett to Michael Jackson's “Rock With You.” And just as quickly, she dumped him and rocked up with Sam Rockwell, and Arnett acted like he was dumped. (He had that – at least a little.)
McCarthy couldn't remember who designed her dress, but she thought it was amazing that it had a lion's head door knocker just below her breastbone.
“Knock on! It’s so loud,” she commanded, so of course we did—and it was…so loud. “Everyone knocked it up. I'm so happy,” she said, showing off her rhinestone-encrusted cannoli-shaped clutch.
In fact, I witnessed McCarthy chasing a young man down the evening's red carpet. Because she really liked his clothes. “Whenever I think someone is nice, I always go after them,” she said. “I pull people off the streets!”
Back in the sea of great dressers, candidates Colman Domingo and Diane Warren were comparing the bling of their outfits. Domingo changed into a full-length Balmain coat covered in crystals and was ready for something new.
“This thing weighs about 30 pounds, so I go to the car to change,” he said. “I have my third outfit. It's a night to celebrate, so I told my stylist I want to feel like whole party”
Anthony Davis and LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, who had just won against the Minnesota Timberwolves, towered over everyone. The TV show “Survivor's Remorse,” produced by James, was actually the first showbiz job for “American Fiction” Oscar-winning screenwriter Cord Jefferson.
When I asked James if he remembered Jefferson, he said, “They're all great!” How did he feel about Jefferson's win? “Everyone's amazing!” It's apparently like a pro athlete's “I don't know this guy, please go away.” (When I told Jefferson about it later, he smiled broadly and said, “That's the perfect reaction,'' he said.)
Director John Waters, like everyone else, wondered what the hell happened to Al Pacino and that weird Best Picture announcement (“And do you see 'Oppenheimer' in my eyes?”). were discussing. “I love it when something goes wrong!” Waters said.
“something needs They fail at the Oscars every year to get people talking. ”
That said, celebrities seem to be wary of saying such things. interpreted I was wrong in front of reporters. Even Bill Maher refused to comment on President Trump's tweet about Jimmy Kimmel hosting, insisting, “I'm not here to talk politics.”
After all, there were more mundane things to deal with.
Out on the patio, Chris Evans, dressed in a stylish red suit, grabbed Adrien Brody's shoulder as if to tell him something really important. “I had to go to the bathroom for about an hour,” he said.
At the bar, candidate Jeffrey Wright was taking shots. American Fiction co-star Erica Alexander is well known to Gen Ta. She wanted to be a part of the Hollywood future she'd seen with Davin Joy Randolph's awards and Danielle Brooks' nominations, and producers around the world like Emma Stone and Margot Robbie.
“A lot of people know me, and I needed them to grow up, and I needed my kids to grow up.” [become] Women in positions of power in the industry,” she said. So she was driving all night looking for her job. She joked that it must have been the white Negroni she was drinking that gave her blind faith.
When we got back to the dance floor, it looked like everyone was dancing with Oscars in their hands. There were so many things that some of them were casually thrown onto the couch and left alone. Then two women stood guard in front of it. “Winners are aware,” they say, and have clearly had to fend off many worrying inquiries. (It belonged to the production designer on “Poor Things,” after all.)
And just as the party seemed to be winding down around 12:30 a.m., a dozen or so Anatomy of a Fall staffers gathered around to drink tequila, served in edible chocolate shot glasses. I started drinking it enthusiastically.
Justine Triet was up for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, but she turned it down. “Neplus alcohol!” we heard. (Immediately she had a champagne glass in her hand so it may have been lost in translation…)
Missing from the crew is Messi, the dog who made a fuss at the neon party and is now sleeping.
Actress Hari Nef said during her departure that her favorite part of the ceremony was Ryan Gosling's big “I'm Just Ken” number and her dog, Messi.
“I wanted to create a new category: best performance by animals,” she said. “I can name some people here tonight.”
