Western Michigan University's Student Media Group (SMG) is pleased to announce the return of student-run radio station 89.1 WIDR-FM from New York City to Kalamazoo after several wins at the Intercollegiate Broadcast System (IBS) Awards. is celebrating.
Several members of 89.1 WIDR-FM traveled to New York to accept the awards for Best Radio Drama and Best Faculty Advisor, along with Glenn Dillon, Assistant Director of Student Media.
The award for Best Radio Drama went to general manager Callie Cooper, program director Rogen Crandall and production director Ryan Misiak for “WIDR Tales: Luna Rose.'' Best Faculty Advisor was awarded to Mr. Dillon.
“It was great to be nominated,” Dillon said. “Winning is even better. I have the opportunity to work with some really talented students, and I think it's a reflection of their work.”
“There was so much energy in the room during the awards ceremony and we were so excited to hear our names announced,” Crandall said.
In addition, the team presented to other participants at the conference. Mr. Dillon announced “Working with the Program's Alumni,” and Mr. Crandall, Promotions Director Sidney Cott and Production Assistant Dan Hubble shared insights on radio station branding during a conference session.
Crandall said the conference and awards have brought the WIDR team closer together.
“In addition to giving students the opportunity to meet other students from around the country involved in college radio, the conference also serves as meaningful team bonding within our station,” Crandall said.
