How to improve your SEO results in the next 6 months
SEO is a long term game. That's why next year's results often come from this year's efforts. But what if it's not fast enough, fast enough, or just generally not good enough?
In that case you need to adjust Repayment period and the strategies and tactics you choose as a result. SEO front-loads your investment over the first few years to create an asset with a defensible moat that increases in value over time.
So, could you set your sights high? Should you monopolize the most commercial and money-making terms in your field?
absolutely!
There's only one problem. It will probably take years and millions to make that happen. It won't help you today, next week, or next month.
Instead, try shifting your attention from what you don't have or aren't ranked to what you have and are already ranked.
Here's how:
1. Update and re-optimize content rankings outside of the top 5
The vast majority of ranking content is never seen, read, or clicked on.
Only the top five or so results in the SERPs have around 80% approval. (See almost every SERP CTR study ever.)
This means two things:
- SERPs (and by extension SEO) are a zero-sum game. In order to win, others must lose.
- This means you need to win at all costs and prioritize top 5 rankings as soon as possible.
Contrary to popular belief, new content doesn't help much here. Because it takes weeks, months, or even years to go from unindexed content to top 5.
Instead, start by looking at all existing content rankings from #5 to #15. Set a minimum volume floor to focus on what gives you the most bang for your buck. Next, set a keyword difficulty ceiling to prioritize the “lowest of the worst” low hanging fruit.
Finished.
Now you have found some content that is easy to update. More importantly, when you're ready to triple your new content, you'll find several different scalable pieces of content that have already shown some buzz, which will help give you more time to rank your new content. Identified the idea.
2. Update and re-optimize content that shows keyword cannibalization
You are already ranking for some keywords. That is wonderful! However, common issues include:
- You’re getting rankings that you shouldn’t be – you’re optimizing for one topic and getting some kind of ranking for another topic. In other words…
- probably I never have You can be in the top 5 for that content for that keyword because your competitors are outperforming you teeth It is well optimized for the above query and It also means…
- You probably already have content that you want to rank for that keyword. However, that ranking potential is cannibalized by other existing pages on your site.
An example is shown below.
The green page (“/cat-health-insurance/”) is a ranking of “pet insurance for cats.” that's good! Hence, green. But look at the yellow conditions. There are 4 keywords and 2 pages. This is not a good sign unless you can prove significant SERP overlap.
The first keyword is branded and blurred. (I can't share all my secrets.) Still, this is the ranking of your homepage ('/') for your brand's keywords. This is fine. However, that same homepage also ranks high for unbranded or unbranded keywords, such as “pet insurance” or “pet insurance for dogs.” That's not good!
Unless these SERPs are already filled with homepages, keyword cannibalization will actually ruin the pages you want to appear here.
Just above the queue, look at the yellow last “/dog-health-insurance/”. This is cannibalized by the homepage. Where there is smoke there is fire.
If this is happening in your case, it's almost certainly happening in many other areas of your site as well. no worries! Here's what you need to do:
It's a very simple 5 step process that will give you immediate results (within about 0-6 months).
Get the daily newsletter search that marketers rely on.
3. Update and reoptimize content that used to rank well but has dropped in the past year or two.
The SERP is a living, breathing thing. They are not static. Information constantly evolves as searchers become more nuanced and information changes over time.
The competition for these SERPs is evolving at the same time, becoming more competitive and putting more money and talent into the same rankings they once coveted.
result?
Once you get a good ranking for a year or so, you become complacent. Your attention shifts to other areas. You'll quickly start to retreat into SERP obscurity.
- This is very common, so expect and accept reality.
- It's literally happening all the time as we speak.
- It's also easy to find and fix.
Again, check your existing keyword rankings. This time we'll add a date filter to get historical rankings for the past year or two. Then filter by keywords and pages that have seen the most decline over that time period.
Exhibit C:
you Already used Ranking high for this keyword is another positive potential sign. This suggests a degree of topical authority and popularity regarding these related terms.
And again, before you worry about publishing new content, updating and reoptimizing these pages will give you a higher ROI over the next 3-6 months than any other page you're currently prioritizing. may be obtained.
