A home decor fan shared a step-by-step process for a DIY project to create the garden of your dreams.
Although some people pointed out that there were problems with her transformation, she said that she no longer has to mow the grass outside the house, which is a big win for her, and has many other benefits.
Designer Cara Newhart (@caranewhart) loves all things DIY when it comes to home renovations.
She showed off in a TikTok video how she remodeled her backyard, completely transforming it using things she bought at Home Depot.
The New Jersey resident added Lifeproof with Petproof Technology turf to create the perfect pet-friendly lawn.
According to Home Depot's website, it's made with a high-performance yarn construction that looks and feels like real grass.
It's resistant to dog digging, and has twice the drainage speed, so “waste liquid doesn't pass through and form puddles.”
“Oh, I want real grass. I want to smell it. I want to be able to plant whatever I want. This is garbage. I just love nature,” the woman said in a comment.
“You’re going to need some of these to make your dream of never having to mow your lawn ever come true,” she said.
Before laying, she first plowed the ground and removed all the roots beneath it.
Next, I marked with spray paint where I wanted the grass to go.
Carla joked that the hardest part of the application process was getting the paperwork out of her car, but she had a unique way to accomplish it.
She rolled it up like a rug, left it in the sun for a while, and then began pinning it in place.
It was very easy to cut with scissors or a utility knife before securing with giant nails, landscape staples, and sand green filling.
The before and after transformation of her outdoor garden was “wild” for her and she couldn't believe she did it all herself.
Although she liked the result, many viewers did not think it was an environmentally friendly choice and thought it would do more harm than good.
One person commented: “It looks beautiful, but when it gets hot it releases a lot of toxins. It's not safe for your pet's paws. It might end up turning into clover.”
“For your pets, you need to know that in hot environments, grass gets much hotter than natural grass. It also looks great,” another advised.
“Wait until you see how much hotter it gets than the grass,” a TikTok user wrote.
“Really? Absolutely not. Let's remove nature and add more plastic,” said another.
“It's giving the Lorax,” the TikTok user added.
“Except that artificial turf contains PFAS, a 'forever chemical' that is harmful to humans and pets,” the man explained.
“It's terrible for the environment and it looks dirty,” said another woman.
“It used to be beautiful and provided refuge, habitat and biodiversity for local wildlife. So sad to see this,” another commented.
