The rise of DIY tutorials on social media has led to an explosion of new terms and trends.
From MDF panels to 'PAX hacks', it's hard not to get lost in the ever-growing list of things you obviously need in your home.
But one trend that's all the rage right now actually has deep roots in interior design as a hack for making small rooms seem larger.
Have you ever heard of color dressing?
When practicing painting, it's important to use one color on every surface in the room, from light switches to baseboards.
Experts say walls, ceilings and built-in cupboards all blend together seamlessly, making a room appear larger.
Painting everything in the same shade eliminates strong contrasts and harsh lines, and instead allows the eye to glide over the room.
Experts from British paint and wallpaper manufacturer Farrow & Ball say: “Color dressing means painting everything the same shade, including walls, woodwork, ceilings, and even radiators and furniture.'' “I will.”
“Although it has become increasingly popular recently, this method of decoration is not a temporary trend.
“Whether you want a room to feel large and bright, or cozy and inviting, there's a way to drench it with color. It's all about which colors you choose.”
According to Farrow & Ball, “Incorporating light or medium shade throughout a space can make a room feel larger and more airy.”
If you use bright colors, the boundary between the wall and ceiling will be blurred.
“It's particularly effective in spaces with awkward shapes, such as narrow hallways, and can help create the illusion of a little more space,” the experts said.
However, dark tones are “effective at drenching the color by creating a cocoon of cozy color.”
“This is especially suitable for a room to be used in the evening, where you can sit, relax and stay for a while,” they added.
A mother's mission is…
Mum-of-two Jordan Miller shared a photo of herself painting her small downstairs bathroom on Instagram, with people praising the design as “gorgeous”.
She used Benjamin Moore's dark olive green paint in Vintage Vogue to cover everything from the ceiling and walls to the baseboards and light switches.
“I really love a colorful vibe, and no part of the trim or ceiling in my house is safe,” Jordan said.
“It's amazing how this small bathroom can look so big.
“It's a bold statement. It enhances the mood and atmosphere.
“And guess what? It's a timeless design that can be used in any type of home, from traditional to modern.”
