Banking giant Wells Fargo has suffered a data breach that exposed sensitive information about at least two customers.
The California-based financial giant said in a letter that personal information and mortgage account numbers were compromised.
Wells Fargo has said one of its employees was responsible for the data breach, but it's unclear how or why that employee accessed and leaked the information.
“Wells Fargo took appropriate action against the employee in accordance with our policies and procedures.”
A Wells Fargo representative said in a statement to CyberNews that the employee at the center of the incident has been fired.
“Wells Fargo was not involved in the cyberattack. An employee violated the company's policy of submitting information to a personal account. This person is no longer employed by Wells Fargo.
Two customers received data breach notification letters. Your needs are at the heart of everything we do and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. ”
Wells Fargo said it monitors accounts for suspicious activity and is now offering victims two years of Experian's free identity theft prevention program.
