While the pandemic hasn't been a time to remember much, there have definitely been some bright spots, such as Mother Nature taking a break from human activity and people discovering new hobbies and passions.
The latter often involves arts and crafts or some type of DIY (do it yourself) project, and let's be honest, they're not all equally great. A TikToker recently went viral for reflecting on the DIY trends that have flourished during the pandemic. Architecture and design enthusiast Reeves Connelly has racked up millions of views with his commentary on certain wild DIY trends. Scroll down to find his video of Reeves below and see for yourself a trend that in retrospect may not have been worth the hype.
Starting a DIY project was one way to pass the time between four walls

All kinds of DIY trends have spread like wildfire during the pandemic, and Reeves explains some of the wildest trends in his video
“Remember the trend during lockdown where people lost their minds and put their beds in closets?”

“And we can't forget the spray foam apocalypse of 2020, where people made furniture that looked like this popcorn, and while it was definitely corny, it didn't come off.”

Some trends that took off during the pandemic weren't so bad
“And the DIY decorating trend due to the pandemic wasn't all bad. For example, the trend of people gluing tiles onto tables was very good.”

However, some bad ones were popular before the coronavirus outbreak
“But before coronavirus, the real pandemic was DIY crayon art. People could just melt crayons in a hair dryer and create abstract renditions of Pride parades on a rainy day.”

“These DIY cloud lamps made of polyfill were a huge fire hazard. We were one step away from becoming an indoor meteor shower.”

“That mirror ball trend. I understand that clubs were closed and people wanted things to be better, but it was like 'The Last of Us.' Once people brought these mushrooms into their homes, Everything will be infected by disco.”

“I'm all for recycling, but these DIY record bowls look like Tostitos scoops to me. They have no place in the house at all unless you use them as bowls for tostitos.” ”

The use of Clase Azul bottles was another trend Reeves approved
“Using Clase Azul bottles as oil dispensers is a trend these days, which is great because I love reusing things that would otherwise collect dust on my bar cart.”

The textured canvas trend seemed to be hit or miss;
“Textured canvas art can be hit or miss. Sometimes it looks like the surface of the moon, which is atmospheric, and other times it looks like icing on a cake spread by someone blindfolded.”

Reeves' video has been viewed about 9.5 million times on TikTok.
@reevcon To be honest, I was pretty bored during lockdown. Some of these DIY design trends were wild. ♬ Original song – Reeves Connelly
