AI music makers are crushing it now. His two giants in this field are Udio and Suno, both of which produce amazingly good music tracks from just basic text prompts.
The advantage of this type of music production is that you don't have to worry about the mechanics of recording and mixing. All you need to do is use your ears to pick the best results and stitch the clips together to create a complete track.
I decided to put two market leaders to the ultimate test — Mano, mano — See which tools create the best tracks from the same text prompt. I tried a combination of very simple prompts and progressed to more complex prompts that offered more flexibility.
Making of AI song track
To use these services, enter the text prompts (genre, instrumentation, and other relevant details) in the box;[作成]Press the button. Then select your preferred result from his two short clips generated by the service and extend each subsequent segment until you have generated a complete song of 3 minutes or more.
We also wanted to measure the effort required, not just the final result. This includes generation time, fine-tuning, and segment stitching. This effort factor is marked out of 10 (the higher the number, the worse) to reflect the effort required to produce a complete song.
I thought I'd start with a 12-bar blues, the most basic of modern popular song genres. The prompt couldn't be simpler, just 8 words. So let's dive in.
1. A 12-bar blues song about losing your dog.
Udio
Udio automatically added five additional bluesy tags to the prompt. The creation process was easy, taking only 16 minutes, and required very few modifications.
Simple songs with auto-generated lyrics can be created very quickly, even when you're in a hurry. However, as we'll see later, the opposite is true if you want more control over the end result.
- quality: The traditional blues guitar and vocals are wonderful. Simple and authentic sound. It's an abrupt ending though
- time: 16 minutes
- troublesome elements: 2/10
- Strong Points: Smooth interface, easy segment tracking, easy curation.
- Cons:Nuff ending
- Overall score: 8/10

I was one of the first subscribers to Suno when it first launched and I loved it. Unfortunately, the latest version seems to have lost some of its luster for some reason. But again, results were produced very quickly. The service added “Blues Soulful Slow” to my prompt and generated a complete song in just 11 minutes.
Unfortunately, that was the only good news. The track was delivered with a weird structure that had to be fixed, the prompts disappeared after the first generation, the lyrics repeated themselves for some reason, and the ending was terrible.
- quality: It starts well, but the female vocals are great, the repetitive verses are boring, and the abrupt ending is bad.
- time: 11 minutes
- Trouble factor: 8/10
- Strong Points: Great first generation, clip length is 1:40 seconds
- Cons: Bad song structure, zero outro control, repetitive lyrics, bad ending.
- Overall score: 3/10
2. EDM dance track about a night of partying
Udio
Prompt Auto has expanded to include electronic, club, dance, house, and more. The generation cycle was simple, the auto-generated lyrics were pleasant, and the incorporation of rap in the middle of the song and ocean noises at the beginning added to the island dance pop feel. It also provided a great outro and ending.
- quality: A lovely upbeat Ibiza style dance fest. Excellent wrap, easy production cycle.
- time: 18 minutes
- troublesome elements: 3/10
- Strong Points: The atmosphere is good, the feeling is bright, and the ending is also of good quality.
- Cons: I have some doubts about the quality of the vocals.
- Overall score: 6/10
snow
Although the prompt contained some high-energy EDM club, the tracks actually resemble standard electro-pop. The biggest problem was Suno's refusal to extend the track beyond his 1 minute 23 minute segment at the beginning. I tried many times, but I gave up. At least the service refunded the full amount of the tokens used. It's a shame, but it could have worked out pretty well.
- quality: Nice electro pop.
- time:33 seconds
- troublesome elements: 9/10
- Strong Points: Good start, nice vocals
- Cons: Refused extension due to technical issues.
- Overall score: 2/10
3. A heavy metal rock track about lovesickness in Seattle.
Udio
Once Udio added automatic tags, the opening prompts increased significantly. The result is a grungy but boring rock track. It took a lot of effort to get past the repetitive riffs, which didn't help with the pretty bad automatic lyrics. In fact, I had to restart twice to get anything decent.
- quality: A stone for pedestrians.Lyrics and melody are below average
- time:40 minutes
- Trouble factor: 7/10
- Strong Points: Catchy opening riff, reasonable ending
- Cons: Poor lyrics, repetitive boring riffs, too much work.
- Overall score: 4/10
snow
The final prompts included hard rock and classic rock, and the results were actually pretty good. Unfortunately, like many of the Sno generation, the song pauses mid-track, as if expecting an end. This seems to be common unless you mess with the timing of the segments. Not suitable if you want to create something quickly. The ending was also terrible. The main reason is that it is difficult to specify an outro if you are not doing a custom generation.
One of the annoying things about Suno (and to a lesser extent Udio) is that the auto-generated lyrics tend to use prompts, especially instrumental words (e.g. “The bass line is “Now playing…” etc.) This is a lazy way to avoid having to come up with your own original lyrics that are relevant and relevant.
- quality: nice classic rock start, dangerous generated lyrics,
- time: 15 minutes
- troublesome elements: 3/10
- Strong Points: good start, decent vocals, decent melody and riffs
- Cons: There was a weird pause in the middle and another terrible ending.
- Overall score: 4/10
4. Country Songs About Divorce
Udio
For this track, I wanted to test the custom lyrics feature of both services, so I created some lyrics in ChatGPT 4 and used them instead of the auto-generated lyrics.
As a result, the creation time was significantly longer, but the appearance was improved. Of course, the best option is to write your own lyrics from scratch. Bonus points if you can locate the hallucinatory lyrics.
For both services, we've added a number of additional tags to our prompts to give your tracks the perfect country 'vibe'.
- quality: Clear and high quality vocals, overall authentic classic country sound.
- time:53 minutes
- troublesome elements: 5/10
- Strong Points: Good country atmosphere, good use of instruments, and good ending.
- Cons: There is an uncomfortable disconnect between the lyrics and the song.
- Overall score: 7/10
snow
Country music definitely seems to be sympathetic to the treatment of AI. The melody and vocals start out great. For some strange reason, Suno decided to ignore most of the custom lyrics input and instead create his own lyrics. This is not good for budding lyricists. The outro is almost completely hallucinatory.
- quality: The trademark flat snow vocal quality detracts from the song's appeal.
- time: 32 minutes
- troublesome elements: 6/10
- Strong Points: Traditional country style melody, nice guitar solo
- Cons: Despite custom lyrics, the lyrics are ignored and the verse and outro are hallucinated. There is no proper outro feature.
- Overall score: 3/10
5. Hip hop rap track about mom's spaghetti
Udio
For this test, we used one of Udio's most powerful features: browsing the catalog to copy prompt and genre information. We also added details for additional prompts such as mellow, poetic, and abstract hip-hop. The result is definitely a little West Coast.
- quality: Audio quality is a little below average.
- time: 75 minutes
- Trouble factor: 7/10
- Strong Points: Weird and unusual songs, cheerful lyrics about food and cooking.
- Cons: A major genre change was needed mid-song to break up the monotonous riff. A little random.
- Overall score: 5/10
snow
Another Suno truck refused to extend beyond the first 1:03 minutes. The platform is either severely overloaded or poorly designed. Either way, this is a frustrating barrier for anyone trying to be creative.
- quality: Trademark flat snow vocal quality degrades the song
- time:83 minutes
- Trouble factor: 9/10
- Strong Points: The first generation got off to a good start. Nice hip hop groove…
- Cons: Failed to end the song.
- Overall score: 2/10
6. R&B groove track about loving you in the moonlight
Udio
The complete prompt turned out to be huge. R&B song about sharing love and moonlight, George Benson style, guitar, smooth soul, electric piano, r&b, soul, funk-soul, rhythm & blues, r&b/soul, rhythm and blues, alto saxophone, saxophone. Udio removes the artist name and replaces it with his style tag, but it's still worth adding. The results were really good.
- quality: Very smooth track. It took a little bit of effort to join the clips together, but it worked. nice guitar solo.
- time: 180 minutes
- Trouble factor: 6/10
- Strong Points: Beautifully arranged smooth soul/jazz. Eat your heart out at Steely Dan.
- Cons: I had to fight one stubborn clip and it took me an hour. not fun.
- Overall score: 9/10
snow
Once again, Suno created a great first segment. In this case, it's almost 2 minutes long. But just when you think things are going well, a terrible interface and clip merging process get in your way. In the middle of the song, he has two weird 7 second pauses, as if he's trying to figure out what the AI should do. Add some weirdly monotone vocals. Even a decent truck will deteriorate significantly.
- quality: A disappointing song with monotonous vocals and lackluster lyrics.
- time: 26 minutes
- troublesome elements: 7/10
- Strong Points: The first two minute clip is decent, but the extension loses fidelity and consistency.
- Cons: Weird repeating lyrics and car crash ending.
- Overall score: 3/10
7. Stand-up comedy based on AI robots
Udio
Amazingly, AI can produce nearly passable stand-up comedy. Sounds weird, but it almost works.
- quality: A pretty good result considering it's spoken word rather than music.
- time: half an hour
- troublesome elements: 4/10
- Strong Points: After a few quick adjustments, the results were pretty consistent, especially the laughs.
- Cons:The tone of voice changes randomly during the broadcast.
- Overall score: 6/10
snow
Suno is a surprisingly decent attempt at stand-up comedy. The laughs are more random than Udio's, but at least they seem to be following the prompts in the custom lyrics box.
- quality:Actually, it's not bad. The laughter is a little lackluster, but I'm trying my best.
- time: 40 minutes
- troublesome elements: 5/10
- Strong Points: Easiest track to piece together, ultimately a good ending.
- Cons: It takes several generations to get there, and the audio degrades badly towards the end
- Overall score: 4/10

The age of AI music is here to stay. Although still in its early stages, it's easy to see how this technology will continue to improve. Udio, in particular, continues to grow more powerful with added features and ease of use.
Unfortunately, Suno has regressed in almost every way since its launch. Coherence, audio quality, functionality, and usability are significantly worse than before. It's a shame.
