They couldn't find what they were looking for in off-the-shelf models, so they went the DIY route.
Sarah and Patrick Romero are a well-traveled couple from Salt Lake City, Utah, who own a video production company.
They decided it was time to move out of his parents' house and get a home of their own, but they weren't looking for a traditional American home.
These free spirits wanted to avoid taking out large mortgages and spend more of their income on travel.
As a result, they set a budget of $45,000 to purchase a purpose-built tiny home.

They toured several small homes that were already equipped with necessities such as bathrooms and kitchenettes.
However, I couldn't find anything that fit my needs within my budget.
Patrick's parents told them that building their own small house might be their best bet.
That's exactly what they did.
The completed home came in well under their $20,000 budget, so going DIY proved to be a smart move.
Patrick's father is a general contractor, so he helped with construction and sourcing materials.
They built a cozy cabin on his parents' property with lots of natural light.
Although it's only 130 square feet, lovers will have no problem with the space.
“There's plenty of room to do what needs to be done,” Sarah said.
Perhaps the biggest advantage of their tiny homes is that they don't cost much.
“We love that living small just gives us more freedom,” Sarah explained.
“We don't have such a large mortgage payment and we don't have the time. money It's about going and experiencing what we want to do. ”
Sarah and Patrick aren't the only ones who decided that building their own tiny home was the best option.
