A voter data expert hired by the Trump campaign in 2020 to investigate voter fraud on Friday criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-Louisiana) claims about the integrity of the election.
“Chairman Johnson is a lawyer and should know better,” Ken Block told CNN anchor Jim Shute during an appearance on “Erin Burnett Outfront” on Friday. “He should understand that hearsay evidence…what he's talking about won't hold up in court, to the level we're at now where we're accusing election integrity and infrastructure based on hearsay. It shouldn’t go up. That’s what he’s doing.”
Johnson has previously supported former President Trump's baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen.
“I just called President Trump and said, 'Stay strong and keep fighting, sir!' Our nation depends on your resolve. We are committed to the integrity of our election system. We must pursue all legal remedies to restore the trust of the American people,” Johnson said in a post on social platform X the day after the 2020 election.
Johnson also joined more than 100 House members supporting a lawsuit filed by Texas with the U.S. Supreme Court aimed at overturning the 2020 election results in states including Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. He led a court brief signed by Republican lawmakers.
Mr. Johnson and Mr. Trump attended a press conference together at the former president's Mar-a-Lago resort to announce legislation that would ban non-Americans from voting, which is already illegal. President Trump was asked about the motion by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to remove Johnson from his current position as speaker of the House of Representatives, and President Trump said at a press conference that Johnson was “doing a very good job.” ” he said.
“I think he's doing a very good job. He's doing as good a job as you're going to do. I'm sure Marjorie understands that too.” continued. “She's a very good friend of mine and I know she respects the Speaker very much.”
