Electric cars are ideal for camping because they provide a comfortable ride without having to start the engine. This has led people to consider the Tesla Cybertruck to be the ultimate camper. However, the truck bed is not connected to the cabin and the storage is not air-conditioned. So while there are solutions to improve the Cybertruck's livability, owners are left with a less-than-ideal setup.
Until the Cybertruck was announced last November, many believed that Tesla's pickup truck would provide climate-friendly storage and be the ultimate camping gear. However, when the first units began to be delivered, people learned that the bed was completely separated from the cabin and there was no bed at all. Air conditioning equipment A system for that purpose. Despite Tesla saying otherwise, this makes the Cybertruck less useful for camping.
Nevertheless, EV Although not cheap, manufacturers sell tents specifically for the Cybertruck. The Basecamp tent costs $2,975 and can be set up on a bed. The most important advantage is that it can be quickly installed and removed, leaving plenty of space underneath for storage. It also doesn't prevent the bedspread from closing when not in use, making it easy to secure and protect.
However, those who purchased the Basecamp Tent found that camping in the bed of a Cybertruck was not the smooth experience they had expected. The storage unit is not heated or cooled, so you will need to purchase a separate heater or portable air conditioning unit. Although some claim otherwise, the Basecamp tent has a zipper on the bottom of the driver's side pocket that lines up with the bed's power outlet. You can connect a power strip to solve the electricity problem inside the tent.
Although there is no pass-through to draw air from the Cybertruck's cabin into the tent, there are several ways to cool or heat the tent. Besides the individual devices mentioned above, there are both DIY and ready-made solutions for regulating the climate in your tent. As one of Cyber truck's original owners, Brandon has designed a solution that other owners can implement if they want to camp in his Basecamp tent or any other tent.
Brandon confirmed that they are working with CampStream to bring this solution to market. For those not familiar, Campstream specializes in providing his HVAC solutions for Tesla and Rivian electric vehicles. Use the hose to direct air flow into the tent from one of the vents in the cabin. This includes replacing the through window to allow hoses to be routed to the tent inside the bed without having to leave the window open.
You can recreate this setup fairly easily by providing the materials and 3D printing a vent adapter. If you want to wait until a commercial solution is available, Campstream will likely provide one soon. Existing solutions for other EV models retail for $499. The one for the Cybertruck should be priced similarly when it becomes available.
