Dr. Robert Kelly, DMD
I haven't downloaded the TikTok app on my phone yet (and probably never will), but I'm not completely ignorant and at least know what it is. Apparently in recent years it has become a frequent destination for people looking for the latest in social media (well, do I feel old?).
A recent Newsweek article had an interesting article about a 19-year-old TikTok user who uses a nail file to trim his teeth to create the perfect smile. After an informal review of previous articles, we found that DIY home dental treatments are rarely successful.
In this case, the girl Christina started when she was 10 years old, deciding that she wanted fangs. So she started using her nail file to shape her teeth. Was it when vampires were all the rage? Remember Twilight?
After a few years, she decided she didn't like the way her front teeth stood out in her mouth and started carving them out again. The Michigan native decided to post this on his TikTok, where it received 23.8 million views, 1.4 million likes, and 6,900 comments. After Christina posted a video of her reshaped teeth, she said her reaction was a mix of “shock and a reaction to my insanity.”
I can't comment on her grades or the appearance of her teeth. As she mentioned earlier, I don't have her TikTok app, so I couldn't watch her videos. If you're interested, take a peek and see how good her artistic skills are. Is it Michelangelo?
Anyway, I'll end this with a phrase from an old TV show and commercial: “Don't try this at home!”
