AUSTIN (KXAN) – On Tuesday, Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan announced the creation of a committee to “study advances in artificial intelligence.”
The House Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies will study “the current state of AI/ET and its uses,” according to a news release from Phelan's office. This will determine the “impact of AI/ET on different sectors of society.”
The commission then identified “policy considerations for the responsible use of AI/ET in the state's public and private sectors” and “legislation, policies, and regulations to address the challenges and opportunities presented by AI.” and recommend corrective actions. /ET,” the release states.
Phelan asked the committee to submit an initial report on its findings by May 16.
“AI and other emerging technologies are increasingly being used in countless aspects of our daily lives, from government use to applications in transportation, healthcare, and personal productivity, and this accelerating technology… It is important to understand the broader implications of this,” Phelan said in the release.
