Shining cooking student
USD 475 announced last Tuesday that Junction City High School culinary interns prepared a meal for the school board before the board meeting. After the meal, the Blue Jays were recognized for not only achieving ServSafe Manager National Certification, but also for being the first team in school history to compete in the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association ProStart Culinary Invitational.

The school board also recognized Junction City High School's recent musical successes. Both the JC Singers and Chamber Orchestra received excellent reviews at the KSHSAA Large Ensemble Festival. JCHS had eight band solos, nine vocal solos, and three string solo students earn honorable mention ratings at the KSHSAA State Solo and Small Ensemble Music Festival. Other musical highlights include his five band and percussion small ensembles, and his three vocal ensembles, which received excellent reviews.

The Junction City High School FCCLA team of Armani Coleman, Macy Muto, Lilin Hotard and Gracie Eriksen was recognized at the school board meeting for placing in the top 25 at the 2024 LifeSmart National Championships in San Diego, California.
Individually, Ericksen won the inaugural LifeSmarts Pin Design Contest and placed second nationally in the health and safety category. Muto also had success in San Diego, earning runner-up honors in the environmental category. Meanwhile, Coleman earned fifth place honors for technology and workforce readiness. As a team, the quartet placed in the top 10 for both their anti-counterfeit design posters and his TikTok/Instagram over-the-counter drug safety videos.
