Garden owners share how they transformed their gardens on a budget of $60.
She explained how a simple DIY gardening hack saved her $600 in mulch replacement costs.
The crafty gardener (@lovem_or_losem) shared her trick in a viral TikTok video.
“It’s a $600 DIY and $600 mulch trade,” she said.
She looked at a garden full of old red mulch that she wanted to upgrade.
But instead of dropping cash on mulch, she picked up 52 gallons of PPG's Permanizer exterior paint in deep red.
I added dark red paint and water to a $9 spray paint container.
After mixing the solution well, she sprayed it on the old mulch to give it new life and color.
She revealed that she covered the entire garden in a very short time.
“The whole project took less than an hour,” she said.
Some of her viewers were shocked at how much the project would have cost if she had chosen a new mulch instead.
One commenter said, “Who the hell buys $600 worth of mulch? I bet they're buying bags, not shovels.”
Although it was more expensive than most expected, the gardener revealed that his price estimate was correct.
“That's how much I would have spent on mulch to replace it,” she says.
She explained that living in San Francisco, it was difficult and expensive to renovate the garden with new materials.
“The problem is that there is no access for trucks in the cul-de-sac, and there is no place to dump the truck and take it to the backyard,” she explained.
“So it’s a bag of mulch or something like this.”
Many were impressed by her innovative and simple ideas.
“Okay, this is genius!” said one commenter.
Some said they liked the look of her method better than the brand new mulch alternative.
One viewer said, “In the end, $60 DIY was better.”
“From the scenery queen, good luck mama!” said another.
“I do something similar, but I made a river of mulch in my garden and sprayed it blue. It's amazing,” said a third man.
