Nio (NYSE:NIO) has officially rolled out NOMI GPT, a virtual voice assistant that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology to provide a better passenger vehicle interaction experience.
The electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer today announced the launch of NOMI GPT, available in vehicles equipped with the Banyan system.
Banyan is the system used in Nio's NT 2.0-based model, as opposed to the older NT 1.0-based model called Aspen.
GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer. This basically solves for the probability of the next word occurring and samples and generates a word from a probability distribution on each call.
As ChatGPT gains attention around the world, many Chinese companies are expanding into this field.
According to Nio, the AI's large-scale language model will allow NOMI to express deeper emotions and become smarter.
NOMI GPT supports features such as encyclopedic quizzes, unlimited chat, and vehicle feature adjustments.
The upgraded voice assistant can answer passengers' questions not only about the vehicle, but also about a variety of fields including science, history, art, nature, movies, and music.
You can also perform commands such as adjusting the ambient lighting in your car or setting shortcut commands.
Powered by AI models, NOMI GPT connects Nio's products, services, and communities to deliver a more efficient and enjoyable AI experience, Nio said in a post published on its mobile app.
NOMI GPT continues to evolve and more features are in development, Nio said.
NOMI is one of the first virtual voice assistants launched in China by a car company. Nio introduced his NOMI, a portmanteau of the English words “Know Me,” when he introduced his first production car, his ES8, in 2017.
Previously, NOMI was primarily used to perform tasks such as playing music, navigating, making phone calls, taking photos, and finding battery swap stations.
On March 5, Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li said in an earnings call that the company has launched NOMI GPT, which is based on an AI model by leveraging the computing power of the vehicle. He said it can increase the competitiveness of existing vehicles. product.
On March 11, Nio began recruiting beta testers for NOMI GPT, with an initial recruitment of 600 people.
The latest version of NOMI has gone through 132 version iterations and offers more than 2,000 features to users, the company said at the time.
