Dark Days Bright Nights is a new DIY festival based in Richmond, and the inaugural lineup has just been announced. Organized by Virginia labels Persistent Vision Records and Yr Screaming Youth, the festival focuses on the screamo underground and the different types of heavy underground music that are hard to categorize. Richmond screamo originators Pageninetinin have reunited to headline alongside prolific Louisiana sludge Leg Two and Louisville intermittently post-hardcore band Young Widows. The rest of the lineup is going crazy.
The festival will be held at the Broadbury in Richmond from September 13th to 15th and will feature performances by The Picture of Sin, Kowloon Walled City, No Man, Infant Island, Massa Nera, Forn, .Gif From God, Prisoner, Lagrimas, Porcelain, Goetia, and Quiet will also appear. Fear, lethargy, private hell, and the Tohoku region. I'm particularly excited about the chance to see Tijuana's Crust collective Habak, and the bill also includes reunion sets from Virginia underground metal favorites Killala and Pygmy Rush, as well as Knoxville noise rockers Red Scare. There is. More bands will be announced in the future.
One of the people organizing the festival is Mike Taylor, owner of Yr Screaming Skull, who has performed with the likes of Pageninechinin, Pygmy Rush and Terminal Bliss. He says of the festival:
A big inspiration for me to host the fest in Richmond is that it has that old Richmond feel. Understated magic. That feeling you get when you find out there's a show you never knew about in the middle of the day, go to it, get completely wiped out by a touring band you've never heard of, and play in a basement somewhere like it's your last time on Earth. night. This city has a rich history with so many bands that have had a huge impact on my life, so I want to give back in some way to that. My hope is that our festival can create lifelong memories for young children.
