The Montgomery College East County Education Center has opened on the east side of Silver Spring near Fairland.
On April 20, County Executive Mark Elrich and City Council President Andrew Friedson celebrated the school's opening with Montgomery College President Jermaine Williams.
The center is county A commitment to providing accessible education and career opportunities to all residents.

The center is located at Westech Corner (2221 Broadbirch Drive) near US Rt. Founded in 2017, it is expected to serve approximately 1,000 students in its first year.
This area is the economic hub of East County; county Workforce development efforts make education and training more accessible to East County residents and help promote economic development throughout the region.
The other three campuses are in Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring. The university also has workforce development and continuing education centers in Gaithersburg and Wheaton.
The 55,000 square foot building consists of:
- 11 classrooms
- Ten Laboratories (6 affiliated health laboratories, 3 computer labs, and 1 career training education lab)
- Raptor Center (one-stop shop for admission, registration, and visitor services)
- community engagement center
- Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation

- Student Wellness Center
- Study room and lounge
“handThe new East County Education Center will make higher education and career readiness training more accessible to the area's talented students.” Council President Freedson said in a press release. “This strategic investment represents an important step toward increasing economic mobility and expanding opportunities to live, learn, work, and raise families throughout East and Montgomery Counties.”
Elrich included more than $60 million in recommended funding for the plan. county The 2025-30 capital improvement program will begin planning for a full-service East County campus. The council has tentatively approved these funds.
