Jonathan Smith has been putting a lot of emphasis on transfer portal recruiting lately, but he hasn't forgotten about his high school class of 2025 either. Both paths are very important for Smith and his staff as they look to quickly shake up Michigan State football's roster, and thankfully for us fans, they appear to be making a number of solid moves.
Smith and wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins recently made offers to wide receivers from Ohio State, and it already looks like Michigan State will be one of the teams to beat.
Braylon Collier is a three-star wide receiver from Sandusky, Ohio. He is the No. 126 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 33 player out of Ohio, according to 247Sports.
Collier is coming off an impressive junior season in which he had 80 receptions, 1,164 yards and 18 touchdowns. I don't know about you, but Collier seems to rank low based on these stats. Therefore, he should definitely see an increase in his ratings in the near future.
Michigan State made Collier a formal offer on May 3, and he immediately set up an official visit starting May 31. It's unusual for a player to schedule an official visit this soon after receiving an offer, so this speaks to Collier's high level of interest in MSU.
Collier has already visited campus once this spring, and 247Sports' Corey Robinson reports that he had a great visit. “Michigan State University's offerings mean a lot to me,” Collier said. “I went to campus once for spring practice a while ago and the campus was beautiful.”
Two other schools to keep an eye on in recruiting Collier are Iowa State University and Iowa State University. Collier is also scheduled to make official visits to both schools in mid-June, making it likely to be the biggest tournament in Michigan.
But you have to love where Michigan State is right now. We'll have to wait and see how Collier's official visit goes in about a month, but all signs point to MSU having a great chance of landing this hire.
