On Friday, people around the web noticed a new addition to Instagram. Meta AI is the company's general-purpose AI-powered chatbot that can answer questions, write poems, and generate images with simple text prompts. This move is not surprising. Meta announced his Meta AI in September 2023 and has spent the last few months adding chatbots to products like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, so adding it to Instagram seems like a no-brainer. I think so.
A Meta spokesperson told Engadget that “our AI-powered experiences are in various stages of development, and we are publicly testing different experiences on a limited basis.” suggests that this feature is not yet available to everyone. tech crunchWe first noticed this news when we reported that Meta AI is showing up in Instagram's search bar. But for some people at Engadget, the feature actually appeared in the search bar of their Instagram direct messaging inbox.
Tap this to start a conversation with Meta AI, just like you would DM a friend on Instagram. I was able to ask the chatbot to define a word, suggest a headline for an article I was writing, and generate an image of a dog on a skateboard. I was also able to ask Meta AI to recommend reels with cats on them, which was easy to do.
But when my colleague Aaron Souppouris asked WhatsApp's Meta AI to recommend Reels, it showed up some Reels within the app as well. This suggests that Instagram's bots aren't actually doing anything specific to Instagram. Instead, Meta just embeds the same chatbot into every app it owns.
When you tap the hamburger menu inside your bot, Meta AI will also show you a long list of actions you can request from your bot.
Reasons for wanting to introduce a chatbot Instagram We can't suggest tips for dealing with credit card overdrafts, discuss cardio and weights, or suggest hacks for traveling with points. But the point is, you can if you want to.
