Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library. Summer programming is in full swing, with teen and adult events in the afternoon and evening on Thursday, June 13th. At 3:30pm it's time for the Teen Manga & Anime Club, where we'll watch and discuss “Tasty in a Dungeon” before the Ramen Cooking Contest. Teens will combine cooked ramen and ingredients to create (hopefully) delicious dishes. Special prizes will be awarded for the best ramen dishes. That evening, at 6pm, it's Adult Craft Night. Try your hand at cyanotype, using light-sensitive paper to make sun prints of plants.
On Friday at 2pm, we will be hosting a special new program, “Interactive Movie Adventure.” “You VS Jungles” is the first of three interactive movie programs this summer. In addition to this program, you can also look forward to “You VS Mountains” and “You VS Deserts.” In our interactive survival adventure, you will travel with Bear Grylls to harsh and unforgiving places. During the adventure, it is up to you, the audience, to find a way to escape dangerous situations. On Friday, we will also be hosting a new teen pop-up program, “Let's Try Hwachae (Korean Watermelon Punch).” This program starts at 3:30pm and invites teens to try a fun new drink that is currently trending worldwide on social media. Join us on Friday to make it together and host a little tasting party.
Saturday is a Tabletop Teen D&D One-Shot Adventure. Registration is full, but you're always welcome to join as an spectator. Get up close and personal with the thrills, carnage, and drama, and watch the story unfold along with the players. The dice start rolling at 12:30pm.
Starting next Monday, we will begin offering DIY BBQ dry rubs to patrons. Stop by by Saturday to create your own combination of herbs and spices provided by the library, ready in time for Father's Day. It was a big hit last time we offered it, so be sure to get some before they're gone! Spice containers will be available. Due to limited supplies, we ask that patrons only use one jar of spice rub per person.
Tuesday will see the return of Campfire Story Time and Fireside Tween Scene at 10:30 a.m., followed by Tech Tuesday for all your personal technology needs at 11 a.m. Amazing Wednesday continues at the Sternberg Museum from 10:30 a.m., learning about the real-life people who inspired great adventurers like Indiana Jones.
We're hosting a Nintendo Trivia Contest at Dry Lake on Thursday. How well do you know everyone's favorite red plumber? Do you know what the three pieces of the Triforce mean? Team up or compete alone for great prizes. Sign up at greatbendpl.info and add your team to the roster (up to four people per team).
