Edged Energy will build a 24-megawatt data center in Irving with sustainability in mind.
Data centers will be built for high-density artificial intelligence. The location is located at 505 North Wildwood Drive, east of Highway 12 and south of Highway 183.
Edged incorporates an approach that requires less water than typical data centers by utilizing a waterless cooling system. It is estimated to use 95 million gallons less water per year than a typical data center.
The company is part of Darien, Conn.-based Endeavor Inspired Infrastructure, which has nearly a dozen new data centers in operation or under construction in Europe and North America. The company plans to break ground on more sites in the U.S. in the coming months.
On April 11, the Irving City Council voted to support the development.
Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer said, “Irving's common-sense approach to regulation and taxes, a large and talented workforce, and the coordination of existing physical infrastructure will enable the creation of artificial intelligence and other applications. “We are well-positioned to attract companies looking to meet their computing power needs.” .
Several other data center projects are underway in Irving. Kansas-based data center operator QTS Realty Trust has continued to expand its footprint in the region since purchasing the former Hitachi semiconductor factory in 2014 and converting it into a large data center campus. .
“This project is a huge vote of confidence in Irving as a destination for the data infrastructure needed to keep our current and future digital economy moving,” said Greater Irving Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce and President of the Irving Economic Development Partnership. said Beth A. Bowman, CEO and Chief Executive Officer. .
The Edged facility is scheduled to open this fall.
