Leeds-based band CRUMBS have announced a new album and digital double A-side single featuring You're Just Jealous and DIY SOS following their signing with Skep Wax
For those unfamiliar, CRUMBS are one of the active drivers of the currently thriving DIY scene in the North of England. They recorded sessions for Mark Riley in 2016, released their first album Mind Year Manners (on the Everything Saxophone label) in 2017, and toured extensively in 2018 and 2019. He performed with Swearin and Jeffrey Lewis at the Brudenell Social Club, as well as numerous concerts. Festivals include his LaDIYfest and Specialist Subject's Birthday all day long in Bristol, A Real Cool Fest in Bradford, Mousetival in Stockton and his indie pop all day in Cambridge. They were part of the first part-time punks founded by Nervous Twitch in 2022, following the quartet who survived the pandemic to create these new, tight and engaging pop songs, reviewed here. did.
CRUMBS has been working hard on their new album “You're Just Jealous'' for the past few years. I don't know how they managed to suppress all the energy. It must have felt like sitting on top of a volcano. The song exploded with pure pop fire, pumping out guitar shards, sharp lyrics, and some of the catchiest backing vocals. Post-punk energy, pop sensibilities, driving beats, bass lines you can eat, guitars you can sleep with, vocal melodies you can't stop listening to…this album, also known as You're Just Jealous, has a lot going for it. There is.
Rob (Skep Wax Records) says “This is the first album that was sent to me on spec and I had to say yes right away. I think Crumbs has created something really great. ”
These songs don't overstay their welcome. The beginning and end are crisply cut, with no pre-echoes or fade-outs of painful, lingering regret. The Crumbs absorbed important lessons taught by the Gang of Four and Au Pair. It's about never dissipating energy. But there's more than anger here. The band sneaks a pop sweetness into the disciplined form of their angular songs. You're Just Jealous has a sharp edge, but it's also generous.
Rhythm Section (Jamie and Gem): Like Delta 5 meeting Le Tigre in a dark Leeds alley, merging blindly and completely, forcing their way through the venue's back door and sending bolts into the limbs of oblivious patrons. It's a thing, it forces you to dance. This is tough. And as the lights go up and the indie kids fly around, Ruth's vocals gently assault your ears with anger, joy, and political intelligence, while Stuart's guitar echoes around you, sometimes as wildly melodic as the B52s. , sometimes resounding sweetly like a memory.Scars sometimes rage, fight back, keep you on guard, and keep you asking for more
The A-side of the new single, “You’re Just Jealous,” is a plea for understanding and an invitation to dance. Her DIY SOS on the AA side is an urgent request that she needs to sort out her feelings and dance.
