BLOOMFIELD, Ind. (WTHI) – On Thursday, there was fallout At a local school board meeting. Multiple community members confronted the Bloomfield Community School Board over the firing of a basketball coach.
The school board meeting was packed.
Many people showed up to support the school's former head basketball coach.
In March, the school board voted 5-2 not to renew JB Neal's contract. This decision was made after the high school principal and the district superintendent. made a favorable recommendation to The board asked for Neal's contract to be renewed.
At the meeting, members of the public accused the board of bias against Neal and called on the board to reinstate him.
Several national basketball players said they were blindsided by the move.
“You went against the principal's approval, the superintendent's recommendation, and now all of us,” varsity basketball player Tucker Lent told school board members.
The board did not address the decision after the public comment period ended.
News 10 spoke to the school's superintendent off camera. He thanked those who came and gave his opinion.
Neal wasn't the only coach the board chose not to renew last month. Board members did not renew the contract of Deanna Potts, the school's volleyball coach.
