NEW MARTINSVILLE, W.Va. (WTRF) – Math class was a lot of fun that day.
When you divide the circumference of a circle by its diameter, the answer is always the mathematical constant 3.14.
Celebrating the number 3.14 on March 14 is a classroom staple and an excuse to indulge in something sweet.
Something Brianna Herrick knows all too well.
“When I was in high school, I was in my AP calculus class and we decided to celebrate Pi Day,” Bure said. “So I thought I'd bring a pie cake with me. I looked on Pinterest and got some inspiration, so I decided to try making this pie cake. I think it turned out really cute.”
“Bre's Cupcakin' Around” is a baking business founded and run by Brianna, all built on the foundation of using her passion to help others.
She's giving back to those in need through a social media fundraiser for the Ohio Valley's sweet tooth.
“I'm really amazed by my community. Every time I do a fundraiser, they're always so supportive,” Brianna recalled. “I have been able to raise over $45,000 for individuals and organizations in need in our community, and I completely believe this is because of the support they have given me. I think what you've done for me is truly amazing.”
Her philanthropic mindset is really great for this bakery.
Briana is a sophomore at Marietta College studying Elementary Education and Special Education. One of her goals is to operate a food truck that provides employment opportunities to people with special needs.
She knows the importance of combining education and fun.
“I think all students benefit from having the opportunity to learn how to bake and learn something that will help them in the future. So, as a special education teacher, I want them to feel accepted when they go out into the workforce.” We want to provide them with the skills and opportunities to feel that way.”
