BYU-Idaho Plant Shop will hold its final workshop of the semester on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
The DIY night theme is “Life in a Bottle” and will be held at the shop located in Room 275 of the Ezra Taft Benson Building. Students create personal terrariums.
According to Ambius, a terrarium is an “indoor garden in a sealed container” in which “plants and soil emit water vapor, essentially recycling water” and that water vapor “then… It collects on the walls of the container and drips into the soil.” Terrariums are self-feeding, so they require little maintenance if kept sealed. ”
The event costs $19.99 + tax per person and can be paid by cash or card at the door.
Jake Parson, a greenhouse worker and senior horticulture student, said these workshops help students step away from schoolwork and into a relaxed environment.
“In the run-up to the finals, guests can expect to de-stress in a comfortable environment with music, people and plants,” Persson said.
Ms. Parson helped students do DIY the night before the plant shop, where they created their own personal herb gardens. He said these events educate students about the medical benefits of plants, including reducing stress levels.

Mr. Parson is looking forward to attending another workshop..
“Personally, I'm looking forward to putting a little terrarium on my desk and watching it grow,” Parson said.
Workshop participants can also shop at the plant shop after hours. Even if you do not wish to participate, you can still come and shop during the workshop.
“We just picked up some great plants from Utah that people will want to see,” Parson said. “We’re excited to see all the new plants in our plant shop during this special after-hours event.”
