Adrian, Michigan – The Lenawee Intermediate School District School Board is considering filling a vacancy on the board following the passing of Treasurer David Prey last week.
According to the Revised School Code, MCL 380.614, “Vacancies shall be filled by the remaining members of the Board of Intermediate Education until the next biennial election, at which time any unexpired term of office shall be filled. The remaining vacancies shall be filled.'' Mr. Prey's term was scheduled to expire on June 30, 2029. The Lenawee ISD Board of Education currently has a 30-day grace period starting April 18, 2024 to fill this vacancy and will appoint a new board member to serve until June 30, 2025. The biennial election will decide who will serve out the remainder of Mr. Prey's term, which runs until June 30, 2029.
The board is searching for registered voters in the district to fill the vacancies. Under Michigan law, the individual appointed to this vacant board seat cannot reside in the Adrian Public School District, as the board already has two APS residents. Restrictions prevent more than two residents from one district from serving on the board unless all seats on the Lenawee ISD board are filled.
Qualified and interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and resume, including address and school district of residence, to William J. Ross Education Service Center, William J. Ross Education Service Center, Lenawee Intermediate School District, 4107 N. You can send it to Janine Decker in the Superintendent's Office. Adrian Highway, Adrian, MI 49221, or by email at Janine.Decker@lisd.us by Friday, May 3, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.
The Lenawee ISD Board of Education meeting to appoint directors is scheduled for Monday, May 6, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at the William J. Ross Educational Services Center.
