However, documents filed by KRD with the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office contain important information about the circumstances that led to the breach. According to this source, on May 31, 2023, KRD detected suspicious activity within an employee's email account. In response, KRD secured its email systems and initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts.
Ultimately, KRD's investigation determined that an unauthorized third party was able to access the employee's email account. Such access allowed unauthorized parties to view certain emails and attachments containing sensitive consumer information.
After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to unauthorized parties, Kutchins, Robbins and Diamond investigated the compromised files and determined what information was exposed and which consumers were affected. Compromised information varies by individual, but may include names, social security numbers, and financial account information.
