RAPIDS CITY, South Dakota – Katie Urban, described as a devoted wife, parent, experienced communicator, and community advocate, is running for a seat on the Rapid City Area Schools (RCAS) Area 7 Board of Education. announced his candidacy.
With a background in communications and a commitment to the Rapid City community, Urban aims to use her passion for education and diverse experience to serve RCAS students, families, and staff.
After nearly a decade as a television news reporter and anchor, Urban seamlessly transitioned into communications roles with local school districts including RCAS, the Douglas School District, and the Pennington County State's Attorney's Office.
With strong ties to the Black Hills community, Urban attended K-12 in the RCAS district and developed a multigenerational connection to the area. Now, as a parent to children enrolled in her RCAS, Urban hopes to give back by serving on the school board.
In her own words, Urban explains her motivation: “I love the Rapid City Area School District and it has been an integral part of my life for nearly 40 years. My desire is to contribute positively to RCAS, a system that positively impacts lives. ” So many people in the community that I care about so much. ”
As a candidate, Mr. Urban will prioritize effective communication, community engagement, and advocating for the needs of students and teachers. She aims to address critical issues such as staff recruitment and retention, school facility needs, and fostering a supportive learning environment for all students.
With his extensive background as a former member of the RCAS Senior Leadership Team, parent, and lifelong participant in RCAS, Urban is positioned to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the district and community.
