On February 26, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology's instructional design team built an immersive escape room to provide a unique and engaging professional development experience for more than 30 members of the student services department. The 10-minute challenge requires teams of four to decipher clues and solve mysteries rooted in Seton Hall's history, with the ultimate goal of rescuing the pirates from the brig.
Of the 10 groups, Nicole LaCapria, associate director of assessment and special programs, Brandon Larmore, director of student support services, and Joshua Doornbos, associate dean of the Academic Success Center, You successfully tackled the room and completed the puzzle. There are nearly four and a half minutes left. They reflected on their experiences and highlighted the benefits of collaboration, emphasizing the development of communication, decision-making and creative problem-solving skills through this dynamic team-building exercise. The team also noted the versatility and potential benefits of incorporating escape rooms into a variety of higher education settings, including classrooms and freshman activities.
The instructional design team first introduced an escape room activity during Seton Hall's 2019 Welcome Weekend. Of his 200 students and parents who stopped by Space 154 to explore Seton Hall's cutting-edge technology, 55 took on the challenge of freeing pirates while learning about Seton Hall's mission and history. Ta. Since then, TLTC has created immersive escape rooms for both faculty and students, featuring themes such as locker rooms inspired by the university's acclaimed basketball program.
