A money-savvy mum has revealed how she dramatically spruced up her garden on the cheap.
Home and garden renovations can be a big dent in your wallet, especially when done by professionals.
But Bethanne Tarbutt Rogers, one of the smartest moms with money, recently took to TikTok to prove that this doesn't have to be the case and that you can achieve amazing results for a fraction of the cost. did.
In the video, Bethanne, better known to her 160,000 fans as @budgetingmumofficial, shared how she and her husband put together a slatted fence with little skill.
“I'm not kidding when I say that my husband and I aren't good at DIY.
“So if we can do this, you can definitely do it too,” she laughed.
The first step in the makeover, under the father's supervision, was to attach long pieces of wood to the wall beside the property.
They then used an “inexpensive” roofing batten pack given to them by Travis Perkins. The material is already pre-treated, so you can paste it directly on your DIY fence.
“I used small wooden blocks to ensure that all the battens were the same distance apart, and then used a nail gun to hold them in place.”
Bethanne, who regularly shares tips and tricks for families to cut costs, said the process was “very easy.”
“I got tired of it after two tries, so I finally gave it to my husband.”
According to Checkatrade, the project took just two hours to complete and cost £60. This would have saved the couple an estimated £1.4 million if the work had been carried out professionally.
Bethanne wrote in the caption: “When we moved into this house, the first thing I saw when I walked into the yard was this awful concrete wall, so this was one of the first projects we did!”
“It’s not possible to replace the fence right now as other work is going on, so this was the perfect DIY fix to liven up the garden.”
“These roof battens are available at Travis Perkins or B&Q. Or if you have a local hardware store, you can try them there.”
“Because it's pre-treated, it doesn't need to be treated and lasts very well through the winter.”
Dozens of fellow social media users flooded the comments, praising the couple and sharing their thoughts.
One person said: “It looks nice, but they could have painted the back wall black or added a screen door. It just looks cheap and could've looked a little nicer.”
Another participant said, “I'm really happy to see the actual change in the budget!''
“Normally there are still hundreds of people!” This is amazing, well done. ”
“This is amazing!” said another person, amazed at the transformation.
“I got bored after the second time, that's how I felt,” laughed a fourth.
