BEAUMONT, Texas — The Texas Health and Human Services Commission on Tuesday released data that could affect 3,392 residents living in or near the cities of Tyler, Texarkana, Longview, Marshall, Beaumont, and Nacogdoches. issued a statement regarding possible infringement.
According to the announcement, it was discovered that between September and October 2023, an employee emailed a spreadsheet containing sensitive health and personal information to a personal email account.
The Health and Human Services Commission reported the incident to the Texas Office of Health and Human Services Inspector General for investigation. HHSC said it is unclear whether any information was disclosed or misused, but that the information was obtained by an unintended recipient.
For individuals affected by the data breach, the Health and Human Services Commission is offering free credit monitoring for one year.
Affected individuals were notified via email.
HHSC said its staff are required to undergo annual security and cybersecurity training and that it takes the necessary steps to keep confidential information safe.
