It looks like the sun is finally peeking out from behind the clouds and we're hoping for a heatwave soon (wink wink). So who better to have on our latest cover than the kings of summer, Glass Animals! It's no exaggeration to say their story so far has been one hell of a ride. Especially considering the massive success of 2020's “Dreamland,” we're thrilled to have them back on the cover of DIY once again. In celebration of their fourth LP, “I Love You So F***ing Much,” an album that sees them rediscovering what matters most to them.
“Everybody's blueprint for love is the relationships they witnessed growing up,” the band's Dave Bayley says in the feature. “Even if we don't know what love is at the time, we form our own idea of it. [opening track] “Show Pony” was meant to say, “This is my experience, this is my blueprint. This song isn't necessarily about one relationship. This is an amalgamation of everything that I witnessed growing up, and looking back, this is a table of contents that shows all sides of love.”
Elsewhere, it's a big event for DIY fans: we delve into Alfie Templeman's experimental (and collaborative) new chapter, head to South London to discuss Goat Girl's new album, and prepare to launch into space with Lava La Rue's conceptual debut, Starface. We also meet up-and-coming New York band Be'n Stellar, who recently visited the UK, and dig into the international inspiration behind Orlando Weeks' latest album, LOJA. Plus, indie champions Los Campesinos return to build anticipation for their new album and this month's Euros. There's no reason not to love it.
Plus, on this month's Neu, we chat to guitar legend Towa Bird ahead of her new album, American Hero, check in with New York scene maverick Malice K, meet with soulful collaborator MRCY, and give our reviews of the month's biggest releases, including Billie Eilish's latest hit and the party-starting album, BRAT, from Charli XCX.
