Hi Gia! How are you? What have you been up to lately?
Hi! I'm doing great. I'm working on a single release from my upcoming debut album “Transparent Things” and I'm also writing some new songs. I've been touring a bit with Marika Hackman, playing a few shows here and there.
Speaking of Transparent Things, how does it feel to be at this stage in your career and know that the release of your first full-length album isn't that far away?
There's a huge sense of personal accomplishment. Having the joy and privilege of making and releasing an album is a common dream for musicians. It's hard work and it can get overwhelming at times. But whenever I stop and think about it, it's just an experience and an incredible feeling.
Can you tell us a bit about how this album came about? Did you go into it with an idea of what you wanted to explore? You always use characters in your songs, did you have an idea of a story you wanted to tell?
I never really thought of myself as writing an album; it was all separate songs that I finally put together. At least for now, I don't tend to work in blocks like that; I just write songs as they come to me. From demo to final version, the production can and does change drastically.
Is there a particular theme to this record, and if so, how did you arrive at it?
It was kind of by chance. It wasn't until everything came together and a writing pattern emerged that the trait emerged. I noticed that I tended to write about these outsiders, so it must have been something I was subconsciously interested in at the time.
